ANC 6D: W6TF Proposed Map

The below is the proposed Single Member District boundaries from the W6TF. This map will serve as the basis for recommendations proposing to change either the ANC or SMD boundaries at the September 19 W6TF meeting. To the extent alternative recommendations are submitted to the task force in advance of that meeting, they will be added to this post for discussion.

  1. I notice the two public housing areas (James Creek and Syphax, and separately Green) are conspicuously grouped in to SMDs. Why are the public housing units not integrated in with other blocks/SMDs?

  2. the map is....interesting. Could someone from the task force please let us know which SMDs go with which color?

Anon@7:30, there are private, non-public housing residences in the SMD with James Creek and Syphax.

  3. I added colors to the SMD descriptions. In case they show up differently on individual monitors, or if anyone has trouble distinguishing colors, you can also click on SMDs in the map for a pop-up that includes SMD id.

  5. Why does a part of Near-SE go to SW yet doesn't have any of the large items: Ballpark, Yards Park or Canal Park? Any reason why the condos/apartments do not get to have a prize in their SMD? I pay a BID tax for those prizes yet I will have to go to another SMD to get things approved/worked out? Makes no sense to split it the way it is.

The map needs some more work.

  6. On behalf of the Board and residents of Townhouse Management 3 Inc., a development of 33 townhouses bounded by 6th St. SW, G. St. SW, H. St. SW and Amidon Field, I am requesting that our development not be moved, as proposed, into ANC 6D03. The homes are identical to and we share many interests with the three other adjacent townhouse developments, which are to remain in ANC 6D01. We have easements and parking lots with the same apartment landlord, we have similar b-laws (which we recently pooled for comparison), we consult each other on various shared physical property and utility issues, co-sponsor townhouse social events and are all located west of Fourth St., which, since it has been opened up through to Maine Avenue, has become a major traffic route and physical divider. Under these circumstances, separating one of the developments from the other three seems conterintuitive and counterproductive. I hope the Committee will take into account the wishes and interests of our townhouse residents when drawing the ANC single member district boundaries.

    Sincerely,

  7. Given the first principle of the redistricting task force's adopted guidelines:
"Recognize neighborhood cohesiveness by grouping residents into ANCs where they are likely to have the most concern about issues that come before their own ANC, and have an affinity of interests and preferences with other residents in the same ANC"
I still prefer the rejected (unfortunately) 6B plan, which would move Near SE into 6B.

Near SE residents seemed to almost uniformly report that they have most concern with issues that will come before 6B, not those issues that will come before 6D. Same goes with affinity of interests and preferences. While I appreciate the hard work of the task force, I hope that the final decision makers reconsider the alternate 6B plan.

  9. Please note that the ANC 6D recommendation should include all of the Randall School building bounded by H St, First St, I St, and Half St SW extended in SMD 6D03. The color map shown as alternative #1 above does not reflect this as a result of the limitations of the base map data obtained from OP.
