FSNA Letter Regarding ANC 6E

FRENCH STREET NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

September 9, 2011

Joseph Fengler. Chairman
Ward 6 Redistricting Task Force
Office of Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Suite 408
Washington, DC 20004

Dear Chairman Fengler:

The French Street Neighbors Association is pleased to support the ANC 6E Single Member District map approved by Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2C at its meeting on September 7, 2011.

This map leaves intact Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2C Single Member District (SMD) 2C01, which contains the FSNA service area in its entirety. With the transition of our neighborhood from Ward 2 to Ward 6, we are eager to retain the existing relationships and community assets that we have worked very hard on and which have made our association a strong one for nearly two decades.

The map approved by our ANC retains in the same SMD the assets and development projects that we have been monitoring and intend to be engaged on, such as the construction of the new Shaw Middle School, as well as the City Market at O project.

Members of our association were not comfortable with the transition from Ward 2 to Ward 6, but our longtime ANC Commissioner, Alex Padro, reassured us that he would agree to run for another term to ensure a smooth transition. This could only be possible if ANC 2C01 became ANC 6E01, which is accomplished by the adoption of the ANC 6E map approved by ANC 2C.

The French Street Neighbors Association urges the Ward 6 Redistricting Task Force to adopt the ANC 6E SMD map approved by ANC 2C.

Thank you for considering our organization's opinions on this matter.

Sincerely,
Helen Mohrmann
President, French Street Neighbors Association
